cost hires new vp, government affairs


On behalf of the Staff and COST Board, we are pleased to announce that Maureen B. Riehl has joined the COST Staff as Vice President, Government Affairs, effective September 19. Maureen brings a wealth of experience and talent to COST. She joins COST after 12 years as Vice President, Government Affairs & Industry Relations Counsel at the National Retail Federation in Washington DC, where, among other duties, she was the lead contact for the 49 state retail associations, was responsible for federal and state policy strategy (including streamlined sales tax issues, business activity tax reforms, and gift card escheat issues), and served as the chief organizational spokesperson for print and broadcast media. She serves on the Board of Directors of the NCSL Foundation, the Board of Directors of the Business Advisory Council (BAC) to the Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board, and has served as President and Board Member of the State Government Affairs Council, on the Board of the Washington Area State Relations Group (WASRG), and the Tax & Fiscal Policy and Commerce & Economic Development Task Force Board of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). She has a law degree (with academic distinction) from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan, and holds dual degrees (Communications & Political Science) from Michigan State University.
